Education

The first school in this area was set up in 1935 at Edavaramba by Mr. Kuppadakkath Kunhiraman Nambiar with the support of Shri. Kelappaji. Later this school was shifted to Chunda with the name of “Pulingome Govt. School” which subsequently became a high school. In 1951 another lower primary school was established in Palavayal. This was upgraded to an upper primary school in 1957 and to a high school in 1967. All the students from these areas were to depend on these two schools. For so many years, the school at Palavayal was the only high school in this locality. The other nearest school was at Vayakkara. The following schools have come up later: Edavaramba Govt. L P School, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Kozhichal and Arc Angel Public School, Pulingome.

For college education, pulingomites are still depending on Payyanur College or Nehru College, Kanhangad. There are also a few parallel colleges in the area.

Sports

Pulingome has a long list of sports personalities who made remarkable achievements in international, national and state level competitions. Prominent among them is Mr. Joby Joseph who was the captain of Indian Volleyball Team. Mr. Joby played for the country in a number of international competitions. Mr. M M Raju who was a member of the state volleyball team and a player of Syndicate Bank Team is another star from this village. Others in the list are; Mr. N A Mohammed Kunhi, a national level sprinter and an NIS Coach, Mr. M A Johnson, volleyball player of Rajasthan State Bank, Mr. Saji Thaickal, a national referee for volleyball and also a marathon star and Mr. Jolly Thaickal, a state level referee for volleyball.

Pulingome had a history of encouraging sports and sports personalities. This village witnessed a number of state level competitions. The only stadium at Pulingome, (Khaderkutty Haji Stadium) which was donated by Late Khaderkutty Haji is regarded as the centre of all sports activities in the village. In the nineties Pulingome had good football and cricket teams which made remarkable achievements in the District league competitions. So many young athletes who practiced in this ground have won accolades.

Adventure Sports

White-water rafting is an emerging adventure sport in the country  and is gaining huge popularity year after year. XTREME RAFTING is a venture by some young adventure sport enthusiasts from Pulingome and is the one and only tour operator in Kerala offering white-water rafting tours in monsoon.

They began their activities in the monsoon of 2006. Xtreme Rafting operates in river Tejaswini, also called Kariamkode, which is comparatively small among 44 rivers of Kerala. It originates from Brhmagiri Hills of Coorg forest in Karnataka, enters Kerala near Pulingome, flows through the districts of Kannur and Kasargod and meets the Arabian Ocean, near Nileswaram as a part of Valiyaparamba Backwaters. Tejaswini, which is, 64kms. long, do have a rafting stretch of 20kms, with plenty of rapids extending up to class-4.

 XTREME RAFTING, also organizes training programs for river guides in association with the Adventure Academy of Kerala State Youth Welfare Board and Indian Rafting Foundation, which is affiliated to the International Rafting Foundation. There are ten qualified river-guides to lead the rafting tours which they conduct. Currently,  XTREME RAFTING, conducts rafting tours only in Tejaswini river.
