Dr. Renoj J Thayyen

Dr. Renoj is a scientist at Natioanl Institute of Hydrology in Roorkee. He had done his schooling from Govt. L P School, Edavaramba and St John’s High School Palavayal. He completed his collegiate education from Niramalagiri College, Koothuparamba and Payyanur College. In 1991, he did his masters in Hydrology with first rank from Andhra University. He started his research work in Glaciology in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 1992. In 1997 he was awarded doctorate in Glaciology. He also possess a diploma in Mountaineering from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttar Kashi. He worked as scientist at Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology in Dehradun till 2006. He joined National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee in year 2006.

He was an active member of the scientific expeditions conducted in Gangotri and Dokriani glaciers by Department of Science and Technology. He was member of the Indian expedition team to Antartica in 2000-2001. He played an important role in making India’s first Ground penetrating radar experiment a great success.

He has published more than 20 scientific research articles in National and International Journals. Presently, he is doing research on the environmental impact of Global Warming on Himalayan Glaciers and Rivers.

He was one of the few scientists from the country who contributed to the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which won the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007. He was awarded a citation by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India for his contributions to IPCC.

Joby Joseph Mundamattom

This former captain of Indian Volleyball team is Pulingome’s contribution to Indian sports. Joby learned the basics of Volleball from Shining Star Sports Club, Chunda. He was selected for training at SAI in 1991 under famous coach Shyam Sunder. He became a member of Kerala Junior Team in 1991 and was in Kerala Youth Team in 1993. In 1994 he was selected to the National Junior Team. He received the “Best Attacker Award” in the Asian Junior Championship held at Quatar in 1994. After long 14 years, India won silver in that championship. He was again selected as the “Best Attacker” in the International Tournament held in Dubai in the same year. In 1997, he became the captain of the national volleyball team. He was the youngest (21 years) ever captain of India’s national volleyball team. Joby represented India in the Junior World Cup held in Malasia, World Cup qualifying round competitions held in China, Bangkok Asiad of 1998, Busan Asian Games of 2002 and more than 15 other international championships held in Iran, Germany, Czech Republic and Srilanka. He played for the country in the SAAF Games held in Kathmandu in 1999.

Joby is the fourth son of  Mr. Joseph Mundamattathil and Mrs. Mary Joseph.

Mohammed Kunhi N A

Mohammed Kunhi is a NIS accredited athletic coach who was also a national level runner. Mohd Kunhi represented the Services Team in the national games from 1991 to 1998 in various events. In a remarkable performance in 1992 National Games, Kunhi won Gold medal for his services team in 4X400 mtrs relay. He continued to be a member of the relay team that won bronze medals in the National Games held in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997 . In 1998 National Games, he represented services team in 400 mtrs run.

He represented Army Team in  services athletic championships from 1989 to 2000. He won several medals for his team in various events which include 400 mtr run, 200 mtr run, 4x400 mtr relay and 4x100 relay. He won gold medal in 4oo mtrs run in 1994 Services Athletic Championship and a silver in 200 mtrs run in 1993. He was a member of the 4x400 mtrs relay team that won Gold in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 2000 Services Athletic Championships. His team won silver in 4x100 mtrs relay in 1999 meet.

He was awarded NIS Certification in Athletics and Grading in year 2000. He served as an athletic coach of the Army Red Team for Services Athletic Championship in 2001. He was the coach of the Madhya Pradesh state team for the National Games held in 2002, 2003 and 2004 . Presently he is working as an Athletic Coach of Corps of Signals Team in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

Sherin Joy

Sherin Joy is an upcoming swimmer from the nearby village Palavayal. A class 10 student of St. John's High School, Palavayal, Sherin has won gold in 100 mtrs breast stroke, 200 mtrs breast stroke and 100 mtrs free style events in the 36th State Swimming Championship 2005. She is the reigning swimming champion of Kasaragod district in school, age and mini games categories, for the last four years. She will be representing Kerala state in the forthcoming National Swimming Championship which will be held in Bangalore. This young promising swimmer is all set to bring her village palavayal to the national sports map in the near future.

Sherin is the only daughter of Mappilaparambil Joy and Elcy.
